Airfield Navigation Lighting System

An engineering facility that provides visual guidance signals to pilots during aircraft night flight and low runway visibility. By the approach lighting system, visual approach slope indication system, runway lighting system, taxiway lighting system and other lighting systems. The graphics, color, light intensity and coverage of the aviation lighting system should not only be suitable for the operation of the airport, but also in line with the country's development or international common technical standards. The luminous intensity of the light is divided into low light intensity, medium light intensity and high light intensity. General airports are installed fixed lights. Small airports can also use mobile, semi-fixed lights. In the absence of backup power supply airports should be equipped with emergency lights. International Civil Aviation Organization on the optical performance of various types of lamps and lanterns are clearly defined.

1, Approach lighting system: guide the approach of the aircraft to the runway centerline, wing level and estimated approach distance to the runway entrance. According to the visibility standard of the runway ready to accept aircraft, different types of approach lighting systems are installed, such as low light intensity simple approach lighting system, medium light intensity approach lighting system for non-instrument runway and instrument approach runway; high light intensity precision approach lighting system for precision approach runway. The high intensity precision approach lighting system can be divided into Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ categories. The visual approach slope indication system can help the pilot to keep the aircraft sliding correctly on the flight path during the approach phase. The International Civil Aviation Organization has approved slope lights VASIS, T-VASIS, and is in transition to PAPI.

2, Runway lighting system: including runway entrance lights, end lights, side lights, centerline lights and grounding strip lights. Runway centerline lights and grounding strip lights are added with the precision approach lighting system category. Figure 2 shows the schematic diagram of category I and II approach lights and runway lights. Beijing Capital International Airport II class precision approach lighting system.

3, Taxiway lighting system: generally consists of taxiway side lights and centerline lights. Sometimes there are also stop row lights and taxiing position waiting lights.

4, Other lighting equipment: airports should generally be set up: airfield light beacon, land airfield light beacon for green, white alternating flash; airfield identification light beacon identification signal letters, according to the international Morse code intermittent flash. Install red obstacle lights on the obstacles, tall chimneys or towers, if necessary, with white high intensity flashing lights set in layers.
